Do’s and Don’ts after Your Treatment
- The next morning after your treatment, you may begin cleansing twice daily using a mild cleanser without exfoliants. We strongly advise using our medical grade products such as Alastin Nectar, Alastin Balm and Avene Cicalfate for best results, but you may use CeraVe or Cetaphil. Apply the moisturizer throughout the day to keep the skin moisturized until the skin has healed and the flaking has stopped.
- Avoid retinoids, peels and scrubs for 2 weeks. Begin those products slowly. Avoid use of any products other than those above following your treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and saunas until the skin has healed. These activities may cause swelling and pain on the treated area and slow down your recovery.
- Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks. A sunblock with physical ingredients such as Titanium and Zinc should be applied every day. We recommend Alastin mineral, Elta MD or Skin Medica’s TDR sunscreens. Wear wide brim hats and sunglasses. If the treated area is exposed to sun (direct or indirect) blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation or hypo-pigmentation can occur.
- Do not scratch or pick at the treated area.
- Do not shave treated areas until all of the darkened pigment or crusts are gone.
- We recommend a series of 4 treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. To maintain results, a treatment every 3-6 months is recommended.

- Retinol, Retin-A®, tretinoin, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo, Ziana® or any topical prescription product.

What To Expect After Your Treatment
Following any peel treatment, there are some simple instructions that must be followed in order to ensure the best results. Depending on the depth of peel, the skin may have one layer to several layers of peeling, and this will vary depending on the area. After receiving a professional peel treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel.” However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately 1 to 12 hours post-procedure.
Following treatment of a medium depth or stronger, your skin may feel like you have a mild wind or sun burn. Over the next 24 hour period, the skin may feel tight and appear shiny. Upon day 2 post-peel, the top layer(s) of skin will begin to detach from the surface to flake and peel away. Days 2-5 post-peel will be the heaviest peeling days, and will usually start around the mouth. Soon after, the skin around the eyes will appear crinkled and flakey. The peeling process will move from the central face out towards the hair and jaw line. Days 6-10 post-peel will reveal a dewy, glowing, fresh layer of skin.
If the neck and chest have been treated, this area will likely peel last (can take anywhere from 10 to 14 days for neck/chest). Typically, the more damaged areas will peel more heavily. Skin will appear more vibrant and healthy. Keep in mind that this skin may still be slightly sensitive and will be more susceptible to UV damage, so be sure to protect your investment! Additionally, if damage is deeply embedded in the skin, not all damage will be removed with one single peel. Several peels will be necessary to achieve the best possible results for anti-aging, hyper-pigmentation, acne, and scarring.
After Your Treatment
- Do not pick or pull at any skin that is peeling or appears to be lifting from the face. If necessary, clip away at any areas that are already detached from the skin surface with a pair of clean, disinfected cuticle scissors. Do not prematurely remove skin that has not yet detached from the surface on its own, as this may cause irritation and/or discoloration of new skin below.
- Do not use any products containing active ingredients until the peeling process is complete (At least 5 days). Examples of these ingredients include peeling agents such as Trichlorocetic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Malic, Lactic, Kojic), Beta Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic), Retin-A, Retinol, Vitamin C, Exfoliating Beads/Grains, Hydroquinone, Topical Steroids (Dexamethasone, Hydrocortisone), Benzoyl Peroxide, or any prescription strength topical cleansers, creams, serums, or gels (Differin, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, or Ziana). If you have questions regarding any products/ingredients that are not listed here, please ask a medical doctor or skin care specialist prior to use.
- As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
- Do not put face directly in hot shower stream or spray. Warm water is fine for use of cleansing, but should be lifted to skin surface with cupped hands.
- Until peeling process is complete, use a gentle cleanser (cream, gel, or foaming), gentle moisturizer, and a non-comedogenic sunscreen with minimum SPF 30. Be sure to use a sunscreen with a high % of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide because it provides broader UVA & UVB protection, and lasts longer on your face without the need to re-apply as often).
- Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories for a minimum of 5 days.
- Do not use a sauna, steamer, or hot tub.
- Do not use a tanning bed.
- Do not use a sunless tanning product on treated areas.
- Avoid activities and areas in which you will be exposed to strong chemical products (cleaning supplies, bleach, chlorine, etc.).
- Avoid hot air to the face from a hair dryer.
- Exercising is fine, but avoid activities that will cause excessive perspiration on the face until peeling process is complete.
- STAY OUT OF THE SUN! Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. WEAR SUNCREEN DAILY! Use a hat or visor – and of course, sunscreen when out running errands or driving (even on overcast days).
- If you are prone to cold sores or fever blisters, and you feel the onset of an outbreak, contact us, or your medical doctor as soon as possible so that he/she may prescribe you with an anti-viral medication such as Valtrex or Acyclovir. Such an outbreak can be shortened or minimized with over the counter products such as L-Lysine (supplement) and Abreva (topical cream). Those who breakout often or easily may want to start Valtrex or Acyclovir approximately 2-3 days prior to a peeling treatment.
Superfecator Peel Pre & Post Care
After Your Treatment
- Do not wash treatment site until the next day: Softening of the brand new scab with water may cause it to come off pre maturely; the end result is that the skin will take longer time to heal.
- Do not scratch the treated area: During the healing process, the area may become itchy. If necessary, use the back of your hand to gently pat it a few times to aid the itchiness. This helps to avoid the irritation that may cause delay in the healing process.
- Do not apply any product on the treatment site: Products that are not instructed to apply on are most likely to cause irritation of the skin. Approved products that can be put on treated skin are sun block or 100% mineral powder make up. Make sure not to aggressively rub product onto the area and use a clean and soft brush to apply the mineral powder.
- Avoid Sauna room, steam room, swimming pool/Jacuzzi, long shower or activities that cause excess sweat until the scab falls off. Extra wetness of the treatment site may cause the scab to fall off prematurely. This will result in the scab to form again and it causes delay in the healing process. It can also potentially cause scarring and/or discoloration in the area.
- Do not use any acid product until two months after the treatment: There should be no exfoliation on brand new skin. It may cause major irritation or acid burn to the new cells.
- Do not use microdermabrasion or any other exfoliates for at least one month.
After Your Treatment
- Wear sun block every day.
- Use Neosporin, if there is redness around the treatment site. Apply at night only.
- Use Mederma (they make Mederma with Sunscreen in it).
- Schedule for a Microdermabrasion procedure one month after the treatment. It will speed up the cells turn over process. It should be performed once a week at low intensity and go over the spot a few passes.
- Red LED light therapy can be performed any time after the treatment, as the light energy is able to heal and repair the skin from inside out more quickly.
- Use a skin lightening serum after the scab falls off: this serum may also help the skin to recover its natural color faster.
Healing and Recovery
The treatment area will form an immediate protective scab, which can be grey, light brown to dark brown or even black in color. Keep the area as dry as possible. The scab should fall off naturally on average of seven to ten days. Large skin growths may produce two to three successive crusts and last up to three weeks. In an area of good blood supply and abundant subcutaneous tissue, healing will be rapid.
